If we had to choose one word to define Night Kitchen’s work it would be storytelling. And if we had to choose one book, it would be In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak. So we’re particularly excited that a retrospective of this master-storyteller just opened at the Rosenbach Museum & Library. Running through May next year, There’s a Mystery There: Sendak on Sendak explores how this brilliant author and illustrator mixes childhood emotions and haunting memories into stories with witty word play, brilliant drawings, and engaging characters.
Sendak’s classic, In the Night Kitchen, inspired our name – you can read about that story here. His belief that both picture and word serve vital and distinct storytelling functions is among our key design principals in all we do.
