inspiration

The DPW’s Bureau of Autism Affairs recognized the growing need to effectively train direct support providers on how to address the unique concerns and challenges faced by Pennsylvania adults living with Autism SPeCTRUM Disorders (ASD).

narration

In keeping with Pennsylvania’s Autism Task Force’s long-term goal of developing a statewide model of excellence that supports the needs of all Pennsylvanians living with ASD, the Bureau of Autism Affairs gathered subject matter experts from around the nation to provide critical learning content for the scenarios and assessments used in the training.

design

In order to aid the retention of fundamental clinical concepts, the training was designed with highly visual instructional graphics such as icons and animated diagrams. Reference materials such as links to online resources and online glossary could also be accessed directly within the training environment. Virtual characters and scenarios were carefully designed to reflect realistic settings.

interaction

As required curriculum for entry-level direct support providers, the training was focused on the development of practical application skills through modeled demonstrations using animated characters and interactive simulations. In terms of delivery, the training modules were made available via CDROM and the WebMentor Learning Management System.
