Inspiration

Night Kitchen Interactive created 30 short movies (over 70 total minutes) and a companion website for UMMA’s new interactive DialogTable a multi-person, gesture-based interactive installation. The table encourages visitors to gather in conversation and foster their own engaging, thought-provoking connections to the art around them.

Narration

Night Kitchen Interactive utilized a collaborative storytelling approach to showcase a variety of voices and extend beyond traditional curatorial narratives. Working closely with the UMMA team, dancers, artists, filmmakers and scholars, a variety of perspectives that enrich this truly communal narrative.

Design

Employing varied design approaches, the movies explore performance, animation and artistic expression. From meditative musings to whimsical animations, intimate conversations to artistic creation, the design aesthetics capture the spirit of each story.

Interaction

The DialogTable’s narrative movies showcase unique approaches to UMMA’s collections, posing questions and challenging conventional interpretation. Through the companion website, users can tag works of art in the museum’s collection and submit ideas for new movies, contributing to a communal dialog and maintaining the DialogTable as a forum for fresh, new, relevant stories.
