Star-Spangled Banner Online Exhibit

Client: The Smithsonian National Museum of American History
Project: Star-Spangled Banner Interactive Exhibit
Inspiration
The Smithsonian National Museum of American History wanted an online exhibit that would present the history of the Star-Spangled Banner and evoke its significance as a national symbol.
Narration
The war, the flag, the song, and the legacy: the history of the Star-Spangled Banner is told in four parts in this dynamic site. In addition to learning about Francis Scott Key’s inspirational story, visitors explore how the flag was made, efforts to preserve the flag and how Americans have used both the flag and the song to express their identity.
Design
The visually-engaging design balances reverence and fun, integrating a star-collecting activity and an interactive flag seamlessly with exhibit narratives and images.
Interaction
The exhibit encourages visitors to reflect and share their thoughts about what the flag means to them. Using Flickr and YouTube, visitors creatively contribute their voices to the online exhibit and discover deeper personal connections to the flag.
