Night Kitchen Interactive has launched the first phase of the comprehensive redesign of Monticello.org. As part of its ongoing work with the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, the new website presents visitors with a vibrant and engaging online destination designed to promote on-site visitation to Monticello and provide easier access to the Foundation’s wealth of offerings.
Through close collaboration with the Foundation’s web advisory group, we created a new visual design infused with color and imagery that evokes the richness of the experience that you get when you visit the home of Thomas Jefferson – the only house in the United States to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Implemented on a Drupal CMS, Night Kitchen Interactive’s comprehensive redesign realigned hundreds of pages of existing content in order to facilitate visitor’s exploration of:
- information on Visiting Monticello
- Jefferson’s thoughts, writings, and ideas
- an inside peek at the House & Gardens
- extensive records on Plantation & Slavery
- academic papers and catalogs in Research & Collections
- award-winning K-12 resources for families and teachers

Stay tuned for the Phase 2 launch, when staff and community members can further engage in Jefferson’s ideas by commenting on, favoriting, and tagging content on the website. This participatory feature aims to foster community engagement both online and offline.
