Matthew Fisher Unveils Social Network for DNA Barcoding Professionals

At the 3rd Annual International Barcode of Life Conference in Mexico City last month, Matthew Fisher presented Connect.BarcodeofLife.net — an online community for DNA barcoding professionals.

The Consortium for the Barcode of Life is an international biodiversity initiative in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, devoted to developing DNA barcoding as a global standard for the identification of biological species. DNA barcoding is a new technique that uses a short DNA sequence from a standardized and agreed-upon position in the genome as a molecular diagnostic for species-level identification.

Through CBOL’s partnership with Night Kitchen, connect.barcodeoflife.net was developed to foster communication and exchange between DNA barcoding professionals worldwide. This site is a place to update colleagues on the latest research developments, debate ideas and keep a thriving community connected.

Matthew’s talk showcased not only the many features of connect.barcodeoflife.net but also announced the upcoming launch of BarcodeOfLife.net in Spring 2010. BarcodeOfLife.net will be a place where a worldwide network of projects and institutions are brought together, serving as the central hub of the international barcoding community.

Be sure to look out for our announcement of its launch next Spring!
