In early 2009 we completed a year-long collaboration with the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA), producing 32 short films on their collection for their newly-installed interactive Dialogtable and developing its corresponding website. With the Dialogtable drawing great interest and acclaim for facilitating exploration and conversation around the museum’s rich collections, UMMA has invited Matthew to be a part of their Wednesday Night Museum series, which features museum leaders, scholars, and artists addressing the challenges and potentials of 21st century museums.
He will lead a discussion on March 17th, 2010 at 7:30 pm at the museum’s Helmut Stern Auditorium, inviting the community to think about how social installations can encourage and enrich an art museum dialog.
The Social Museum: Online Community-building and the Future of Museums will explore the role of social media and interactive installations in realizing the missions of forward-thinking museums. Matthew will share his thoughts on the evolution of museums in the 21st century from being visitor-centric exhibition spaces to participatory platforms for dialog, creativity, and even transformation. This talk will illustrate how Night Kitchen has teamed with museums such as the Smithsonian, SFMOMA, and UMMA to inspire and engage visitors as participants in lively, collaborative experiences, using technology to reach audiences in innovative ways both online and off.
If you’re in the Ann Arbor area, we encourage you to check it out!
