Inspiration
The Live Animal Center at The Academy of Natural Sciences (ANS) is home to over 100 birds, mammals, reptiles, and invertebrates that would not survive on their own in the wild. To supplement the visitor experience, Night Kitchen Interactive developed interactive kiosks to help teach visitors about wildlife conservation and the environment.
Narration
To engage the young audience, Night Kitchen Interactive designed the experience in the form of an interactive picture book that provides more detail on the animals’ stories, habitat, and conservation status.
Design
The picture book approach attracts young visitors with the large picture, touch-screen format while adult visitors can access more in-depth information about the animals. To further engage visitors in the kiosks, the center’s animal keepers directed the web cams to provide a behind the scenes look at the activities of the animals.
Interaction
Emphasizing the user-interaction, Night Kitchen Interactive created kiosks that prompted frequent visitor input. In addition, the kiosks were developed to “recognize” the varied abilities of each user, creating an experience tailored to appeal to both young children and adults.
