Inspiration

In keeping with its community education initiatives on healthcare, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia sought to provide the public with a reliable online source of information on immunization and vaccinology.

Narration

Drawing from the College’s renowned Historical Medical Library and subject matter experts, the History of Vaccines explores the fascinating stories of infectious diseases, and the scientific breakthroughs that continue to impact public health today.

Design

In order to facilitate in-depth exploration, the website offers multimedia timelines, engaging activities, insightful articles, a media gallery, a blog through which visitors keep abreast of contemporary issues, polls, and resources for parents and educators.

Interaction

In addition to exploratory timelines and activities, a game simulation – Illsville: Fight the Disease – was developed to reinforce key historical and scientific learning points. As players progress through the Age of Disease (1600-1750) to the Modern Age (1975-onward), they will learn about the factors that impact the health, productivity, and lives of citizens in this simulated environment.
