Environmental Challenges Website for Smithsonian NMAI

Created for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, this new website documents four American Indian communities, the environmental issues facing the four tribes and their responses to those challenges.

Built with teachers and students in mind, the American Indian Responses to Environmental Challenges site features a media-rich, scaffolded learning environment with progress tracking and assessment features. A combination of exploratory activities and free-response interpretive questions encourage student reflection and synthesis, often encouraging students to draw connections to challenges within their local communities.

The website contains videos, interactive activities, and questions along the way to help visitors gain deeper insights to the integral role the environment plays in the daily lives of American Indian communities. The culminating activity gives students the ability to plan classroom presentations, allowing them to collect notes taken across the site as well as track observations about their own communities in a central web-based presentation planner. read more
