Discover the Real George Washington Timeline

We are pleased to announce the launch of Discover the Real George Washington, an interactive timeline that unveils the many facets of America’s first President – statesman, military leader, family man, visionary entrepreneur, and slave owner. True to its title, this online exhibit tells the story of the man behind the icon, presenting historical content in a way that engages audiences of all ages.
As a companion to Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens’ traveling exhibition of the same name, the timeline does more than just provide online visitors with a preview of the artifacts, interactives, and videos that are presented in the physical exhibition. Bringing the "real” George Washington to life, this online exhibit contains interactive battle maps, behind-the-scenes images of the creation of the life-size figures of George Washington, and playful animations that transform our perceptions of the stoic image we’ve come to associate with George Washington, allowing visitors to look at our first president with new eyes.
Through capturing the spirit of George Washington, this interactive timeline serves to expand the public’s general knowledge of America’s first President, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of his profound impact on who we are as a people and a nation. The traveling exhibition kicks off its 3-year tour at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh, PA this weekend.
