Inspiration

  • “Music is the shorthand of emotion.” – For many years now, Leo Tolstoy’s quote has been a satisfying summation of my belief in music’s power of expression.
  • I enjoy having a variety of tastes: from chill house to acoustic, rock to reggaeton, 80s to smooth jazz, and more.
  • My ever-deepening interest in partnered dancing (especially blues) is hot on its heels, though.

Narration

  • Creative, quirky, or honestly insightful first-person storytelling (which I sometimes attempt to do with my blog)

Design

  • Graphic design that stands out to me as unique
  • Photography of everyday people and scenes that catches your attention
  • Music album covers
  • The beautiful collaboration between every detail of the sunroom my parents designed for their house
  • The association between colors and emotions or moods

Interaction

  • The behind-the-scenes combination of back-end and front-end programming that makes a web application work smoothly, and figuring out how to build it myself
  • The differing social dynamics of online and in-person communication
  • Did I mention how much I love dancing?  Powerhouse Blues on Monday nights is just the beginning of my weekly schedule…

Developer

Tory completed her B.S.E. in the University of Pennsylvania’s interdisciplinary Digital Media Design program in 2010. She particularly enjoys developing the code behind the scenes that supports interactive web applications and creates an attractive and user-focused experience. Tory eagerly accumulates knowledge of web technologies and languages. With internship and undergraduate course experience in areas ranging from front-end development to databases to third-party APIs, she is excited to kick off her career at Night Kitchen as a member of the development team. She recently played an active role in the development of the Drupal-based website Monticello.org.
