what's hot

We have the pleasure of working on new and innovative projects all the time. Below is a brief description of some of our current projects.

Night Kitchen’s Highlights Reel

2009 was a busy and bustling year for us here at Night Kitchen, and we’ve been able to use our blog to keep you all up to date on what we’ve been up to! However, with the New Year dawning, we realized it was time for the Studio section of our site to reflect our latest and greatest.

In the coming weeks you’ll notice the onset of what will be a multi-phase redesign of this section of the site. Eventually, the Studio section will be a place where you will see not only what Night Kitchen as a company has been up to, but also the personal projects of our creative and passionate staff members.

In the meantime, check out our highlights reel, which highlights a selection of projects that best represent our design approach.

NCC Engages Students in International Dialog on Democracy

This fall, Night Kitchen worked with the National Constitution Center to develop a website around its International Engagement programming and the Center’s role in fostering an international dialog around the American constitutional experience. With a dynamic homepage, blog, and access to information on current and upcoming projects, the International Engagement site connects visitors to the many compelling NCC programs thriving beyond its walls. One such project is Recording Democracy: The Making of "We the People".

PhilaPlace for Non-Profits at Net Tuesday

HINT: Use the "full" button in the slideshare controls above to view the PowerPoint fullscreen, in order to read the labels describing the site functionality.

The first Tuesday of every month, Philly NetSquared invites one and all to Net Tuesdays, an event promoting dialog and discussion within and beyond the new media community, and a place where "web innovators and social changemakers to socialize, strategize, learn from and inspire one another."

This week Matthew presented on "PhilaPlace for Non-Profits: Promoting your vision and mission online", discussing PhilaPlace, a project on which Night Kitchen is currently collaborating with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.

The Consortium for the Barcode of Life

The Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL), sponsored in part by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, is an international initiative devoted to developing DNA barcoding as a global standard for the identification of biological species. With more than 170 member organizations from over 50 countries, CBOL embarked on a web initiative to enhance communication within its global research community and encourage collaboration in this groundbreaking work.

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History’s Centennial Website

Night Kitchen Interactive is working with the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History to design and develop the Centennial website. As a permanent, commemorative online record of the museum’s proud history, the website will honor the 100th anniversary of the building, the growth of its collections, the accomplishments of its staff, and the museum’s role in promoting public education of American science and culture. The website will be designed to complement the museum’s special exhibition opening on May 29, 2010, and will help promote programs and activities related to the NMNH’s 100th celebration.

Discovering the Real George Washington

Night Kitchen is currently in the discovery phase for the design and development of the George Washington interactive timeline for Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens. We are excited to delve into the creation of the visual treatments and begin building the timeline components with Mount Vernon’s rich array of content, garnered from its own collection and resources.

Cultural Data Project Promotional Vignette

Due to the success of the Pennsylvania Cultural Data Project since its launch in September 2004, the project has begun a national expansion and is now available in four additional states. In addition to designing a website to support this national campaign, Night Kitchen Interactive is creating a promotional rich-media vignette that conveys the benefits and significance of the project to arts and cultural groups across the country.

PhilaPlace: Sharing Stories from the City of Neighborhoods

Night Kitchen Interactive is currently working with the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to create PhilaPlace, a community-based website that will illuminate the history and culture of Philadelphia’s unique neighborhoods.  The website will showcase the HSP’s vast collections, as well as contributed content from collaborators and the general public. Night Kitchen Interactive’s unique solution includes the integration of CollectiveAccess, an open-source collections management system, and GoogleMaps. Through this innovative platform, visitors will be able to contribute their own stories, create custom tours, and explore the HSP’s collections through a map interface. Target launch is Fall 2009.

America I AM: The African American Imprint Debuts at the National Constitution Center

The National Constitution Center – a museum that tells the story of ‘We the People’ – is the premiere venue for America I AM: The African American Imprint, a ground-breaking exhibition that celebrates nearly 500 years of African American contributions to our country. As a promotional feature on the home page, Night Kitchen Interactive created a rich-media vignette that provides a preview of what the exhibit has to offer. The exhibit opens on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday on January 15, and runs through May 3, 2009. To buy tickets or learn about evening programs, visit http://www.constitutioncenter.org/AmericaIAM/.

The America I AM vignette is just one of Night Kitchen Interactive’s projects with the National Constitution Center. Additional projects include a site redesign, the Seize The Vote! game, the Centuries of Citizenship timeline, and the award-wining interactive exhibit Abraham Lincoln’s Crossroads.

Not just another Abe Lincoln blog…

The Rosenbach Museum & Library  has launched the 21st Century Abe blog, www.21stcenturyabe.org. Designed by Night Kitchen Interactive, the blog previews the upcoming 21st Century Abe website, which will target a new generation of audiences about the life, work, and words of Abraham Lincoln.

Scheduled for launch on February 12th – Lincoln’s 200th birthday, the website will include creative interpretations of exhibition materials by artist/illustrator Maira Kalman, musician Bryce Dessner of the band The National, and multimedia artists Archive (Chris Kubick and Anne Walsh). The project is already getting attention in the blogosphere and elsewhere: City Paper, Foundhistory.org, the National Review Online and The Bulletin.
