We here at Night Kitchen love to share our thoughts on the value of collaborative storytelling and the impact it can have on museum visitors of all ages. Whether adding a humorous example of Abraham Lincoln in contemporary culture to 21st Century Abe’s growing collection, or sharing your thoughts on what photography means to you through the click! photography changes everything site, we’re passionate about creating and fostering opportunities to contribute to a communal dialog. It’s therefore always fantastic to learn about people who’ve contributed to and been inspired by one of our projects, and have since hit the ground running with their own storytelling pursuits!

Commemorating Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday, the Night Kitchen Interactive-designed 21st Century Abe website launched today. The website features creative interpretations of the Rosenbach Museum & Library’s collection of rare and significant Lincoln materials, such as speeches, letters, and notes. Contributors include artist/illustrator Maira Kalman, musician Bryce Dessner of the band The National, multimedia artists Archive, and Lincoln scholar Douglas Wilson. In the spring, Philadelphia comedy theatre company 1812 Productions will add their own take on Lincoln to the site.
Contributors also include … you. Fully participatory, the site invites audiences to design their own interpretations of the Lincoln documents and to share their viewpoints on the current obsession with this historical heavy weight.
Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
