AAM 2011 Session: Using Learning Theory Research in the Exhibit Design Process

Night Kitchen Interactive’s Director of Learning Strategies, Stacey Mann, will be speaking at the 2011 AAM annual meeting in a session that weaves together the disciplines of learning science and exhibition design.

Walk the Walk: Using Learning Theory Research in the Exhibit Design Process will give museum professionals from all backgrounds the opportunity to learn how they can introduce educational theories into the design process through dialogue and real-world applications. Walk the Walk will focus on the practical application of learning and design theory via small group charettes that address interpretive projects drawn from Houston-based institutions.

Following a brief introduction to some foundational learning principles, the majority of the session will focus on breakout groups tackling real design scenarios, allowing attendees to hear about learning theory while actively learning how to strengthen cross-departmental teams. Through this process participants will gain a better understanding of how visitors learn and the implications for traditional and non-traditional museum experiences.

This NAME-endorsed session will be chaired by Cynthia Sharpe, Director of Exhibit Development at the Thinkwell Group, and co-presented by Stacey Mann and Phil Lindsey, VP of Exhibits at The Health Museum in Houston.
