Commemorating Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday, the Night Kitchen Interactive-designed 21st Century Abe website launched today. The website features creative interpretations of the Rosenbach Museum & Library’s collection of rare and significant Lincoln materials, such as speeches, letters, and notes. Contributors include artist/illustrator Maira Kalman, musician Bryce Dessner of the band The National, multimedia artists Archive, and Lincoln scholar Douglas Wilson. In the spring, Philadelphia comedy theatre company 1812 Productions will add their own take on Lincoln to the site.
Contributors also include … you. Fully participatory, the site invites audiences to design their own interpretations of the Lincoln documents and to share their viewpoints on the current obsession with this historical heavy weight.
Happy Birthday, Mr. President.
